Many retailers struggle with employee theft, leading some to speculate that crime is merely an internal problem that is not impacted by outsiders. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Is employee theft a problem? Of course. It always has been. Nobody wants to believe a new colleague or manager can violate their trust and commit a criminal act, but every good retailer understands employee dishonesty is a reality in stores, distribution centers and corporate offices. The world is becoming more mobile, flexible and diverse. This means that Diversity has taken on a new importance in the workplace and has now become a business imperative. Managing diversity is valuing and demonstrating respect for the uniqueness of individuals and the varied perspectives and talents they provide. Diversity means we recognize, affirm and celebrate differences in age, education, ethnicity, race, family status, gender, national origin, physical ability or qualities, religion, sexual orientation, thought processes, personalities and lifestyles, and any other characteristic that makes a person an individual.
